The Social Alchemy Symposium is a participatory gathering April 10-13 in New Harmony, a town twice the site of utopian experiments. Conversations — led by more than 20 authors, artists, designers, and philosophers from around the world — will look at the role of utopian thinking: yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Attendees are welcome to join any parts of the free symposium in person, online, or both. Organized by Big Car Collaborative and the University of Southern Indiana. In this episode, Jim Walker interviews John Green and Sarah Urist Green — married collaborators based in Indianapolis who both released books during the pandemic.

Sarah’s book, You Are an Artist: Assignments to Spark Creation, is connected to her work on The Art Assignment show on PBS Digital. This popular series started with artists sharing assignments for others to try and moved into shows about art history and travel. About Landon Caldwell & Mark Tester:
Caldwell & Tester are Indianapolis-based artists, musicians, composers, and producers. Their duo work explores various niches in electronic music with a focus on process, often incorporating spontaneous composition & experimentation with an array of technology, creating works that harness rhythm, ambiance, and melody to conjure meditations on fleeting sensations and early morning comedowns.

Together they have toured in the United States, Canada, and Europe and are regularly engaged with artists and musicians across the Midwest and beyond. Since 2016 they have operated Medium Sound, producing a number of the label’s releases.
